It’s starting to get colder here at Wildwood, and we love doing outdoor mindfulness activities for when the temp drops.
This week, Wildwood experienced its first frost of the fall season. Shorter days and colder temperatures are upon the summer camp world.
For some of us, the colder months can prove to be more stressful and difficult than the summer months. Days are shorter and nights are colder. The cold outside can make us feel anxious, stuck, or even depressed. As advocates that kids (and grown ups) grow better outside, we want to share just how you can keep up with some outside mindfulness activities this chilly season!
Mark your calendar for a unique respite option led by Wildwood’s camp counselors and full-time staff leaders!
R&R (Respite and Recreation) Weekends at Wildwood provide essential social-emotional learning and tech-free outdoor recreation for Jackson County, MO youth in grades 4-7.
Bus transportation and meals are provided.
Campers will get to participate in fun camp activities and build supportive relationships with peers and adults–plus enjoy unique themed fall and winter activities and 150 acres of beautiful camp setting to explore!
Programs will run Friday through Sunday with two conveniently located Jackson County bus stop locations.

Unstructured, uncrowded, and unbelievably beautiful adventure awaits! Kids need time to roam, explore, imagine, and enjoy time in nature. Unstructured time in nature with mud and dust and sky ignites the body, mind and spirit of kids (and their grown ups.) Free-Range Friday is your invitation to let your kids run and hike and adventure at their own pace and within your own comfort-level in a wide-open place.
Each Free-Range Friday will include one activity presented by Wildwood staff and open access to adventure around Wildwood. Wander the trails; catch a fish; observe local wildlife; and make lasting memories!
Wildwood feels like a place far away, but really, we’re only 37 minutes south of I-435.
